Alabama House Approves Medical Cannabis, Next Step is Governor's Office
At a vote of 68 to 34, the Alabama House of Representatives approved SB46, the Compassion Act, the name it was until today. (The name was changed to honor a legislator's deceased son during the process today.)
We recorded the meeting and will publish that soon. We are sending out a press release announcing this special accomplishment:
We need to thank the tireless efforts of Senator Tim Melson and Representative Mike Ball. And we want to thank all who opened their minds to see what access to medical cannabis in a responsible and controlled way could do for their constituents. We also want to thank those who brought up their concerns, even those who voted against it. Some of their points were valid. We will work with them to make the law even better.
Our next step is the governor's office. We will keep in contact with our legislators to see if anything will be needed to make sure this is signed into law. And then, we will need to work with government agencies in setting up the oversight commission to make sure it truly serves our members and the people of Alabama in a responsible way.
